Thomas Obermeyer, M.D.

Dr. Thomas Obermeyer is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in shoulder surgery and sports medicine. His practice focuses on comprehensive care for the spectrum of shoulder disorders, including labrum tears, instability, pain problems, rotator cuff tears, arthritis, correction of failed prior surgery, and anatomical and reverse total shoulder replacement. His clinical practice also concentrates on the knee, including advanced arthroscopic knee ligament reconstruction, minimally invasive treatments for the meniscus and cartilage injuries, and robotic knee replacement. Dr. Obermeyer’s treatment philosophy centers on compassionate care, including the patient in healthcare decision making, and individualizing treatment plans based on goals and expectations.

Widely regarded for his precision and application of cutting-edge surgical technology, Dr. Obermeyer applies minimally invasive techniques, when possible, to minimize downtime and expedite return to sport and activities. Dr. Obermeyer grew up in Alaska prior to moving to upstate New York, where he completed his undergraduate and medical school education at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Albany Medical College. He graduated at the top of his medical school class, with Alpha Omega Alpha distinction, Magna Cum Laude honors, and with a Master’s level thesis for his research. He completed orthopedic surgery training at Loyola Medical Center in Chicago, prior to pursuing subspecialized training in shoulder surgery and sports medicine at the premier Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. He furthered his understanding of complex shoulder disorders with additional training in France, which is considered by many as a center of innovation in shoulder surgery.

In his free time, Dr. Obermeyer enjoys fishing, physical fitness, and spending time with his family. He is the team physician for Fremd High School.
